Quirky travel book that made even me want to go to Texas!, March 5, 2014
I have to say that I have been hearing Tui’s quirky stories about the interesting offbeat travels in the Dallas and Fort Worth area for awhile now but this book has more than I thought possible in just that small portion of Texas! If you know me you know that I am not one that likes the south very much (I currently live in Georgia). I would have never thought that Texas would be a place that I would want to visit (though I have quickly driven through several times) let alone spend time there, but her book makes me want to hop in my car and see these fascinating sites!

A few of my favorites that I want to see when I go to Texas:

    1. I would love to spend time on Antique Alley Texas! I can’t imagine driving along and finding a huge field full of antiques! One of my favorite things to do is to stroll through looking at all of the fascinating pieces from days gone by. We do have something similar here in Georgia, Dixie Highway 90 mile yard sale, but somehow I don’t think it has as many antiques or as beautiful a view (and really, how can you compare a yard sale to Antique Alley!).

    2. I have a fascination with cemeteries, I love looking at all of the old headstones and imagining the life of the person it belongs to; what life was like in their time period. It seems Tui has a similar fascination with cemeteries because there are several mentioned in her book between the Alien that is supposedly buried in Roswell, Texas to the Unique headstones – These Boots Were Made for Walker. I can see myself having a grand time exploring them all!

    3. My partner and I love going on Ghost tours, especially the well informed historical ones! The Ghosts of Denton tour sounds right up our alley and I can see that being loads of fun!

    4. THE ACTIVE POOL – I can’t believe she mentions the movie Logan’s Run and where part of it is filmed! This was one of my favorite movies and I would love to see this!

I’m going to stop there, I could probably go on forever with my favorites but you’ll have to get the book to discover all of the other wonderfully adventurous and quirky sites in that part of Texas!

Tui’s style of writing is fascinating, warm and relate-able. Her likability has people in the street chatting with her and telling her of nearby quirky sites to see and all of that shines through in her writing.

Whether or not you plan on going to Texas anytime soon, I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Unexpected Texas and entertain yourself with this adventurous and quirky book. Who knows, you may decide you just have to plan a trip very soon!

” Don’t Panic.”; The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy this isn’t. But, y’all know it has to be big if it’s from Texas. The sights and character’s are just as quirky. Buried lizards, a park dedicated to murder victims, and the 3-D Last Supper figures in wax. Leaping lizards, this is a great travel guide to have on your coffee table.

If You’re Gonna Visit Texas You Gotta Have This Book, March 9, 2014

I am an avid traveler and travel blogger. I have traveled all over the United States and driven thousands of miles on back roads to visit quirky and offbeat destinations that can be found around this beautiful country. Many of those travels have included drives through the great and wondrous state of Texas. There are amazing things to be seen in Texas and Tui Snider’s book “Unexpected Texas” provides over 200 marvelous destinations in the North Texas area.

I have been fortunate enough to visit many of these destinations and Tui covers them very nicely. The book is meant as a travel guide and not as a history book, so most of the articles are brief and to the point. But she provides the reader (and the traveler) plenty of information to have a fascinating and wonderful offbeat road trip.

If you’re looking for the spooky and the dead, she’s got it in the book! If you’re looking for the quirky, such as the small Eiffel Tower with the cowboy hat on top of it, you can find it there! How about buildings made out of petrified wood? They’re in the book! Perhaps you’re looking for a house made out of beer cans or a giant Jackalope, well if you have “Unexpected Texas” in your hand along with a map, you will get to find those locations without a hitch!

As I travel the country, I am always looking for guides the provide good and detailed local information. I look for guides to help me to find unique things that I may not of known about in little towns along the way. It is books such as this, they make travel easier and more fun!

I highly recommend Tui Snider’s fun book on the unique, the quirky, the offbeat and even the spooky destinations that you can find in North Texas. It’s a fun read, and an absolute must in your travel toolbox.
