   I use the Wallpaper Guides for their focus on architecture and design. They’re usually well-written and can lead you to odd, out-of-the-way places that most tourists might not find. Without this book, I might not have visited the Art Deco buildings of Fair Park in Dallas or the massive Texas & Pacific railroad depot in Fort Worth.

   On the other hand, the restaurants and hotels recommended are too trendy and expensive for the average traveler (like me). The editors tend to focus on quirky shops and the hippest eating establishments and bars, which can date these guides pretty quickly. Places that were hot when the writer visited the city might not even be in business by the time the guide gets to you.

   The Wallpaper Guides are definitely not comprehensive, general interest travel books, but their architecture and design sections are done well. If you’re looking for a special interest guide with a very specific focus, this could be a good purchase.

   I was in Dallas/Ft Worth area for a short business trip and this was perfect guide to help me pick out a few spots to visit. It’s size is great (small do it can go in my bag) and content is helpful.
